Commissions
Commissions are considered on a case-by-case basis and need to sit naturally within my existing way of working. Availability depends on where I am in a making and firing cycle, as well as the nature and scale of the request. If the approach outlined below feels aligned, you’re very welcome to enquire.
Types of work I consider
I take on commissions that sit within the aesthetic and material language of my existing work. This may include one-off pieces, larger forms, or small production runs, depending on the project.

I don’t have a ‘commissions catalogue’; I encourage potential clients to spend time with the work I already make by looking in the Gallery and consider whether their request feels like a natural extension of it.

Commissions may be wood-fired or electric-fired. The firing method is decided on a case-by-case basis, based on scale, function, surface, timing, and overall intent.

Wood-fired commissions
Wood-fired work is shaped by flame, ash, and kiln atmosphere, with long lead times due to the scale of the kiln. Outcomes are inherently variable and cannot be precisely specified. These commissions are best suited to clients who value uniqueness and are comfortable with variation.

Electric-fired commissions
Electric firing allows for greater consistency and predictability and is often better suited to projects with tighter timeframes, specific functional requirements, or where consistency across a set is important. Cost-effectiveness can also be a consideration, within the framework of handmade work.
What I don’t take on
Reference images are welcome as a starting point for conversation, but I don’t copy work directly.
To keep expectations clear, I don’t take on commissions for:
-
slab-built work
-
replicas of other makers’ work
-
precisely matching existing pieces
-
repairs of broken pottery
